LEGENDS vs. ROADKILL
June 28, 2002 First, a big thank you to Joann for arranging Match #2. I won’t keep you in the dark any longer – the Legends again won four points and are 8-0 in their first two matches in Ireland and England. It was a wonderful Friday night for the Legends topped off by “Sweetness & Grace” (i.e. Irene) showing up in unexpectedly. She was so enthusiastic; she filled in and rolled one game each for Scott’s Wife, Mister Leo and the Doctor ????. Irene couldn’t keep away from “the” Continent. She opted to settle some pressing legal matters for VDO; if history is any judge she could spend the rest of her wonderful career dealing with VDO problems. The satisfaction will come from a task that never ends, kind of like the copier machine repair people. She coupled the Legends Match with another trip to Scotland; she is so psyched she vowed to find a Match or two in Detroit. Competition was expected to be tough as the Roadkill, by their very nature, are an aggressive bunch. However, the team we faced were pussycats -- easy fodder for the undefeated Legends. The Legends were led by the Doctor??? who showed that running trails up mountains is not his only good sport and by Scott who used his newly developed cockney accent to throw the Roadkill off their game -- all in good fun. Biker, proved again that he is a great analyst by keeping score and by his good nature in his ability to laugh at his athletic prowess. Biker was the low scorer, Mister Leo was next to last, Scott’s Wife was fourth, “Sweetness & Grace” a surprising 3rth (with a Turkey in her third game when she was really hitting the rack); Chocolate Chippy was second high behind the “MVP” of the night – the Doctor???. The Roadkill, while a great name for taxi drivers, were retired men and women who drove taxis and emergency vehicles around Chickester’s country roads. They were more into their aches and pains and antiques than the rugged bowling required to beat the Legends. It was really good the match was Friday night because the tension two days before the World Cup Final was palatable. Even the Roadkill, cheering for the “home” country – Germany were awaiting Sunday’s World Cup showdown. It should be noted again that selecting an opponent is key. Even though handicaps are used in scoring, getting an opponent that is seen to be beatable is very important. With the next three matches in the New York area, “Dancer” and “Biker” will have to do some scouting to select the “ideal” (read a team that can be beaten) third and fourth victims for the Legends. Along with “Dancer” and “Biker” others expected to compete include:”Chubs”, Ladies Man, THE MAN, “Guru”, Mom, “Rocky”, “Stash”, “Turtle”, Open Mike, Grandma and the Girl next Door; The Body and “Red” are also on standby. The next three Matches in the New York metropolitan area will commence July 23rd and be finished by mid-August. A report on all three will follow. The next two Matches will be in New England where Captain Mister Giant – (Ed Zadravec) will hone his team into action. Elliott Schultz Baker |
